The Shenzhen Design Week is a big initiative engineered by the authorities to support the design communities. With the first edition starting in late April 2017, it is an international annual design event sponsored by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, administered by the Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Office, and organized by Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Association (SDPA).

伴随着设计周，深圳市每年举办一届深圳环球设计大奖的征集与评审。该奖项旨在发掘独具前瞻力、创造力、驱动力、影响力的设计师及优秀设计作品，甄选其中的优秀者加以表彰，同时增强国内外设计界的交流，吸引全球优秀设计师参与深圳的设计事业，鼓励创意设计的产业化发展以及创意设计理念的推广。

本奖项由深圳设计周暨环球设计大奖组委会主办，深圳市设计之都推广办公室指导，深圳市设计之都推广促进会承办。支持机构包括联合国教科文组织全球创意城市网络、世界设计组织、国际设计联合会等。
